Coronado Stone Products is proud to announce expansion plans with the addition of a new manufacturing facility. We have purchased the assets of Crown Hill Stone Inc., including their property and equipment located in Westfield, New York.  Conversion of the newly acquired property is in progress, which will allow production of Coronado’s full line of stone veneer and thin brick products. The new facility expands Coronado Stone’s geographic manufacturing footprint, which currently includes five plants located in South Carolina, Texas, Northern California and Southern California.

Sales continue to grow as we expand our market share across the United States and Canada. The new facility will allow us to accelerate our growth by providing lower landed costs, shorter lead times, and better overall freight logistics to our customers within the serviced area.

DIY Fireplace Remodel with Coronado Stone Veneer

Untitled Document
Before You Begin:
1. Before installing any Coronado Stone veneer products, make sure the surface is clean and free of any dust or debris. Dirt and dust on the wall could lessen the bond between the stone and the masonry surface.
Before You Begin:
Build Out Your Wall (Optional):
2. If you would like to extend your stone veneer installation to the ceiling, you have the option of building out the wall above your existing fireplace. Build a frame to your desired dimension and securely anchor it to your wall. (note: installing the scratch coat and stone veneer will add additional dimension and should be factored in while designing your fireplace).
Install Sheathing (If Performing Step 2):
3. Install sheathing over your wood frame. There are several different types of sheathing that can be used including: plywood and cement board. The most commonly used sheathing for this application is plywood.
Install Sheathing:
Install Weather Resistant Layer and Lath:
4. Install a weather resistant barrier (WRB) - (grade D felt paper 60 minutes) is recommended. The upper layers of the WRB should overlap the top of the lower layers by a minimum of two inches. The WRB should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. Next, apply a layer of 2.5 or 3.4 pound expanded metal lath horizontally. The lath should overlap a minimum of two inches on the horizontal and vertical seams.
Install Weather Resistant   Layer and Lath:
Apply Scratch Coat:
5. Apply a nominal ⅜" thick layer of mortar over the lath with a mason’s trowel. Ensure the lath is completely covered with mortar to allow for scoring of the surface. The mortar should be applied with sufficient pressure and thickness to fully embed the lath. Once the mortar is thumb-print hard, scratch the surface horizontally with a notched trowel, scarifier or scrap piece of lath to create a scratch coat.
Apply Scratch Coat:
Install Coronado Stone:
6. After the scratch coat dries (allow at least 24 hours) and before the stone is applied, snap 8" chalk lines across the wall for the purpose of proper horizontal alignment of stone (this step does not apply if installing irregular shaped stones). When installing the first course, start at the bottom corner of a wall installing one or two corner stones first. Corner pieces have a long and a short return. These returns should alternate in opposite directions on the wall’s corner staying within the chalk lines. Continue the project by installing flats off of these corner pieces. Apply mortar to the back of the stone and work it into the wall with a side to side motion to create a bond. Each additional course that is installed will begin with a cornerstone.
Install Coronado Stone:

Manufactured stone veneer is easily shaped or cut as desired. This enables you to fit stones quickly into place, insuring a natural looking wall with tight mortar joints. Cutting or shaping can be done by using either of the following tools: 4" handheld disc grinder with diamond blade, nippers or a wet saw. Note: Always wear safety glasses while cutting stone veneer.
Enjoy your beautiful new fireplace!
